Property experts debate affordable homes in south-west

Property experts are due to meet in Somerset later this month to
discuss how to create affordable homes for young people in the
south-west.
Currently, the region is the second most expensive area in the UK
outside of London for first-time buyers, according to the Chartered
Institute of Housing (CIH).
Cornish MP Matthew Taylor is due to speak on the lack of
availability of rural housing, while Glastonbury Festival founder
Michael Eavis will open the seminar on July 24th.
Mr Eavis commented: "The current housing crisis is just not
sustainable and should be the most important concern in the whole
country. I wanted to start an awareness campaign to highlight the
need for many more affordable homes."
Wendy Murphy, a representative from the CIH and chair of the event,
added that the money is there for affordable housing, but barriers
to delivery of it need to be broken down.
The majority of the most expensive properties in the UK are in the
south of England, with London boroughs dominating the top ten
dearest places to live.
